Summarizing from information about the gazebo from the San Antonio Parks and Recreation website and the Edwards Aquafer website, the gazebo was originally a bandstand that was moved from Alamo Plaza in 1897 and is placed on top of an old bear pit that was there long before. The park got two things done at once. The structure adds to the park and it took care of the big pit that needed to be made safe. The gazebo is now used for parties, weddings, receptions of various kinds and on occasion, for a small band to play from.
According to the San Antonio Parks and Recreation webpage for San Pedro Springs Park's rental facilities, the gazebo is available for $40 for the first four hours Monday through Thursday and for $25 an hour for every hour after that; or for $80 for the first four hours and $25 for every hour after that on Friday through Sunday and holidays. Electricity is available, but no lighting, picnic tables or benches. No tables are furnished.
