This sign relates the history of Needham's founding and when territory was split from the town. The sign is found along Dedham Avenue (Rte 135), near the intersection with South Street.

The sign says:
"Town of Needham
The area "5 miles square north of Charles River" assigned to Dedham in 1635 by the Mass. General Court. Title obtained by purchase from the Indians Willam Nehoiden, 1680, and John Maugus in 1681. Settlements existed here prior to 1694. Incorporated Nov. 6, 1711. First town meeting Dec. 4, 1711. Nedham leg set off to Natick 1797. Turtle Island set off to Newton 1803. Needham's West Parish incorporated as the Town of Wellesley in 1881."
