This milestone is in a horrible state. It has a lump broken off and is rusting. It needs some wire brushing and paint at least!

I am a little puzzled about the "Reading 49" inscription. So what? London is closer and more significant. So is Luton and a myriad of other places. There must have been a reason to go to Reading from here back then. There isn't now!
