At the centre of the small city of Roi-Et is a city park. In this royal park (Somdech Phra Srinakarindra) are a number of cultural and religious artefacts. One of these, certainly the most visible, is a ~25m high golden Buddha, in a walking pose, facing due east, towards the rising sun. This statue is well crafted and impressive, both by night and day.
As with most statues in Thailand, this is also a shrine.
Note, the photographs of this walking Buddha I have seen show 'vodes'–golden musical instruments, which are a symbol of the city–at the four quarters of the platform upon which the status stands, however, when I visited (early July 2010) there were no 'vodes' present. I am unsure if the removal is temporary or permanent.
