The small town of Sisaket lies on the route of the north eastern Thai train line, which originates in Bangkok (as do most transport routes in Thailand) and terminates in Udon Thani, on the Thai/Cambodian border. The town train station is of a standard design: an atrium with ticket counters and a waiting area, toilets, and a few offices. Similar to most others in the region (you will have to check the sign to know which station you are in). The train station exits into the rather quiet, central area of the town. Outside are tuk-tuks and samloars ready to whisk you away around town.
There are several trains passing through the station each day. Most are slow, 3rd class trains, taking Thai folk back and forward through Esarn (north east Thailand). This is an inexpensive way to travel, particularly for Thais, who travel free in 3rd class on weekdays, for non-Thais expect to pay ~0.5c (i.e. half a USA cent) per kilometre—not too expensive, as long as you have the time (~50kms hour), do not mind stopping at every village along the route, and bring your own seat pillow (those hard plastic seats!).
If you do chose to travel this way, I recommend that you purchase two tickets, one for yourself and one for more space for yourself—makes the journey far more comfortable. I also suggest a set of ear protectors, these trains are very noisy. I could also suggest your own toilet paper, but I am going to stop at this point.
