A war memorial in the form of a roadside shrine in the village of Ardeley

The memorial is in the form of a roofed shrine. A recess on the face contains a figure of St George in armour holding a shield. The figure is based on a sculpture in Florence by Donatello. The statue was originally coloured, but the colours have been allowed to fade. The shrine is situated in a memorial garden of clipped shrubs by the roadside.
The sculpture has two engraved panels on either side. The inscriptions read
