The bronze benchmark was placed in the park in 2001 and was entered into the National Geodetic Survey database in 2003. The official description information from the NGS datasheet is as follows:
STATION DESCRIPTION
DESCRIBED BY NATIONAL GEODETIC SURVEY 2003
THIS MONUMENT WAS ESTABLISHED AS PART OF THE CENTER OF POPULATION MONUMENTATION PROJECT. IT IS LOCATED AT A COUNTY PARK IN SAVAGE MARYLAND WHICH IS 8.5 KM SOUTHEAST OF COLUMBIA, MD 4.7 KM SW OF JESSUP, MD AND 4.5 KM N OF LAUREL, MARYLAND.
TO REACH FROM THE INTERSECTION OF INTERSTATE 95 AND STATE ROUTE 32 DRIVE EAST ON SR 32 FOR 2.5 KM TO THE OFF RAMP FOR US HIGHWAY 1 SOUTH. DRIVE SOUTH ON US 1 FOR 0.1 MI TO ITS INTERSECTION WITH HOWARD ST. TURN WEST ON HOWARD ST THAT RUNS NORTHWEST TO WHERE IT RUNS EAST-WEST AND BECOMES BALTIMORE ST. AT THE END OF BALTIMORE ST TURN NORTH ON FAIR ST TO THE PARK ENTRANCE.
STATION IS LOCATED IN THE GRASS AREA ADJACENT TO A CHILDRENS PLAYGROUND VISIBLE FROM THE GATE AND JUST BEYOND WHERE THE ENTRANCE ROAD SPLITS. FOLLOW THE ROAD RIGHT AND PARK IN THE PARKING LOT JUST NORTH OF THE MONUMENT.
THE PARK HAS A GATE DENYING VEHICLE ACCESS BEYOND DAYLIGHT HOURS.
MARK IS 17.3 M SOUTH OF THE SOUTH EDGE OF THE PARKING LOT, 9.85 M WEST OF THE WEST EDGE OF THE ROAD AND 1.6 M EAST OF A GRANITE BOULDER INTO WHICH A COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE HAS BEEN PLACED.
