The Cullen Family Carousel was handcrafted and specially designed for Detroit. It features creatures native to the Detroit River, including sturgeon, egrets and walleye, along with the mythical River Mermaid and River Monster. Opened in June 2007, the carousel has quickly become a Detroit icon and treat for kids of all ages. The carousel is named in honor of Conservancy founding co-chair, Matthew P. Cullen and his family. The naming of the Carousel occurred as a result of a significant capital campaign contribution made by family and friends of the Cullen family.
Carousel rides are $1 per person. All proceeds benefit the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy and help to maintain Detroit's new Riverfront, including the Cullen Family Carousel.
