During the Colorado Gold Rush thousands of individual mines were staked throughout the front range of the Rocky Mountains. Most played out after only a couple of years and others are still active.
This particular mine appears to be HARDROCK mining where tons of material were removed to extract the TRACER Gold. The shaft of this mine is covered by a padlocked grating to keep curious folks from falling down the (estimated) 60 foot verticle drop to the bottom. While investigating the mine it appears that there are two horizontal tunnels leading off at the bottom. Maybe following a percieved vein of Gold?
The wooden lift frame and sluice still sit pearched above the mine shaft. Folks have used the shaft as a trash pit, which is a shame. I can't find any information about this particular mine, as there are 1000s scattered accross this portion of Colorado.
Located on the grating above the mine shaft is a a medalion marked with the name:
STATE OF COLORADO - MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIV
