Egmont National Park's Around the Mountain Circuit (AMC) offers experienced trampers a challenging multi day route through spectacular bush and alpine environments.

It can be undertaken via a high level circuit in the ice/snow prone alpine regions (better undertaken in summer), or via the predominantly low-level bush track suitable all-year round.

Travelling anti-clockwise from North Egmont, day 4 overnight stop, Waingongoro Hut is 4-6 hours (9km) from Lake Dive Hut and 6-7 hours (12km) from North Egmont.

This suspension bridge is 15 minutes from the hut, crossing the Waingongoro River.

It is also less than an hour via an easy benched track from Dawson Falls Visitor Centre, making the experience of staying at the hut and crossing the bridge an excellent adventure for a young family.

"No way", said young Sam as he arrived here after a 4 hour hike. Not a good time to discover one's aversion to heights. But Sam dug deep, conquered his vertigo and crossed - then went back on his own to take photos.
