One of the three surviving city gates that formed part of the fortifications of 1400.

This tower was built shortly after the earthquake of 1356 and was part of the fortification ring around the city. In the 19th century most it was teared down to give the city room for expansion. Only three of the gates and a short part of the wall survived. This one is was at the North-West border of the medieval town close to the river Rhine.
