This memorial to those killed in the Apollo/Saturn 204 accident and the space shuttle Challenger disaster is located in front of the Hasan Temple on Palmyra Rd in Albany, GA.
The memorial read:
This memorial was placed at this site January 1987 to honor those that gave their lives in effort to further our country's space exploration programs.
On January 27th, 1967, - Virgil “Gus” Grissom, Roger B. Chaffee, and Edward H. White II were killed in the Apollo/Saturn 204 accident at Cape Kennedy.
Michael J. Smith, Francis R. “Dick” Scobee, Ronald E. McNair, Ellison S. Onizuka, Gregory B. Jarvis, Dr. Judith A. Resnik, and S. Christina McAuliffe died when each space shuttle Challenger exploded 1 min. 13 sec. after launch from the Kennedy Space Center on January 28th, 1986.
