"Tequski' wa Suwa" (Bear & Child)

"Tequski' wa suwa" is a Chumash phrase, in the dialect of the people who lived near the misison. It means "bear and child".


Artist Paula Zima: “My intention in creating the piece is to honor the two major life forms of the region, before the influx of the European culture, the indigenous Chumash people and the Grizzly Bear.”


Paula Zima's works include, sculpture and paintings, public sculptures, drawings, hand-colored etchings and commercial illustration. She lives near Santa Fe, New Mexico
