Basel sometimes is referred to as one of the more bike-friendly towns in Switzerland. I think this is more a result of beeing very car-unfriendly than a clear strategy. Nevertheless, there are many bikes around and especially around the main railway station the storing situation had become very unsatisfying. So with the last renovation of the tramway station there was a large underground bike tender system introduced. Regardless of its size it is usually completely filled most times of the day.
It has four bike ramps in the corners and for additional pedestrian entrances. There are 1620 traditional places, 250 small locker boxes and 25 large bike locker boxes. There is a little bike repair and rental shop in the center and an Indian take-away in one corner. There are also some restrooms and showers. There is a self repair area with tire inflators and loading stations for E-bikes.
Prices are CHF 1/day or 120/year for the traditional places, resp. 5, 360 for the boxes. It has its own website: www.veloparking.ch.
