John Clark School was built in 1936 as a Works Progress Administration project. This Art Deco building was designed by architect Louis Pinault. It was constructed entirely of granite. The project employed many local tradespeople. To save money, nearly two thirds of the building material was salvaged from grout piles of local quarries.
The school is named after the immigrant who established granite quarrying in Rockville.
The school is still in use for elementary students. The interior features three murals, also part of the WPA program, painted by Gerome Kamrowski.
