The Sports Hall of Fame opened in 1951. Tris Speaker, baseball star and native Texan, was its first inductee. For a few years the HoF was located in Grand Prarie but moved to Waco in 1991.
Everything in Texas is big including this Hall of Fame. There are displays from almost every sport you can think of! There are inductee exhibits, interactive displays and tribute rooms. There is a Health, Fitness and Education Center that is full of hands-on activities.
Of course football is important in Texas. Here you can listen to school songs from the colleges. There is a new gallery dedicated to the Southwest Conference and the Cotton Bowl. The theater is named for Tom Landry and the gift shop has lots of Dallas Cowboy items for sale.
As I wandered around I began to think that every athlete I've ever seen was either born in Texas, went to school in Texas, or played in Texas! But then again, this is the Texas Sports Hall of Fame!
