Do not ask for whom the bell tolls
But does it mourn or call?
After all a school bell
Is a cheery thing, all-in-all
They do not state its provenance
Which school, local or far?
But we will remember Ruth Howe now
A local librarian star!
This antique school bell stands on a white pedestal in front of the Salado Public library. Freshly dedicated (10 April 2010), its plaque reads simply:
In Memory of
Ruth Howe
First Volunteer Librarian
1986 to 1988
Salado Public Library
