Cecil Thomas sculpted the bronze statue of Peter Pan in 1966 with Tinker Bell on the base, near Virginia Lake in Wanganui. It was unveiled in 1967. It was the gift of Frank and Eleanor Burnet. Peter stands in a defiant attitude with his hands on his hips, on a tree stump, and around the stump are the Lost Boys, various woodland creatures, rabbits, birds, mice, but also includes some New Zealand creatures, a tuatara, a morepork, a fantail, a limpet, skinks, snails and penguins.
