The House of Ireland was originally called The House of the Irish Free State, it's name was changed to House of Ireland in 1940. It was built for the 1935 California International Exposition held in Balboa Park. It is the oldest Irish cultural center in Southern California.
The House of Ireland is a member of the House of Pacific Relations International Cottages. (

"The house was founded for the purpose of dissemination of history and culture, for both Irish and Irish American; for promoting good citizenship; to bring people together in friendship.
Take a walk back in time and view our Irish kitchen. while you're here, enjoy a cup of Irish tea and soda bread while listening to a session of traditional Irish music. If someone is feeling the urge, there may even be a bit of Irish dancing."
The website also indicates that it sponsors classes in Irish dance, language and history at the house.
The House is open to the public every Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.- along with the the other international cottages in the Park.
