A Cook County Highway Department Bench Mark disk embedded in the bridge over the Edens Expressway (I-94) in Wilmette, IL. To reach the station, go west from the intersection of Skokie Blvd and Church St to the mark on the left. The mark is on the south side of the street, embedded in a circular concrete pillar half-underneath the bridge.
I forgot to get a picture of the surrounding area, so I hope this description will suffice. You can see the mark from the sidewalk, but you have to lean over the railing. Not too far, of course, but still. The mark is east of the expressway itself. You should be standing a little to the west of the end of a chain-link fence running parallel to Church St. You'll be able to see it if you look over the guard rail and straight down to the bridge foundations.
According to the date stamped on the mark, it was monumented in 1954, which would correspond with the construction of the Edens Expressway. Also, the marker has the township (T 41 N) and range (R 13 E) stamped on it. The other thing is that this marker was stamped quite lightly, so the mark might actually say "F17C" and theoretically might have had some other stampings as well which came out unreadable.
