The interior of the Colonial Theatre was designed by the famous architectural firm of J. B. McElfatrick and Son. The outside was designed by the Pittsfield firm of Joseph McArthur Vance. The theatre was built in five and one half month at a cost of $70,000.00 and opened on September 28, 1903 with a production of Robin Hood by the Bostonians.
Many big names in entertainment trod the boards of the Colonial Theatre including Ethel and John Berrymore, George M. Cohan, Will Rogers.
