An historical marker located on the grounds of the Madison Parish Courthouse provides the following information about Tallulah:
"Tallulah was founded in 1857. In 1862 it was an important telegraph and railroad station on the Vicksburg, Shreveport, and Texas Railroad. On August 18, 1862, the depot, telegraph office, and several cars were destroyed by a small detachment of Federal troops under Col. W.D. Bowen. The depot contained a large amount of sugar and supplies for the Confederate Army."
Wikipedia provides the following additional information about Tallaluh, Louisiana:
"Tallulah got its name in an unusual sort of way. When the railroad was expanding in the area, there was a widow that owned a large plantation. She became friendly with the railroad's contractor and persuaded him to change the route of the railroad so it would run through her plantation. After the railroad was built she had nothing else to do with him. Feeling rejected he named the water stop for an old girlfriend named Tallulah, instead of the plantation."
