In 2008, the Scappoose School District hired architects to survey the buildings in their district. The community has been enjoying a level of growth, and they were interested in maintaining their schools in an effort to continue to encourage suburban growth. The results of the survey was recommendation to completely replace Peterson Elementary. Significant upgrades were recommended for Scappoose High School, and modest upgrades were recommended for Grant Watts Elementary and Warren Elementary. A 33 million dollar bond measure was passed by property owners to fund these upgrades. Although the Scappoose Middle School is the oldest building in the school district, it was built to such high standards that no significant upgrades were recommened. A fine testament to the principal of doing it right the first time.
