Three granite boulders, weighing a combined 54,500 pounds and unearthed in 2009 at a Tualatin excavation site, are the remnants of cataclysmic ice-age floods now on display at Fields Bridge Park in West Linn. These glacial erratics were trapped in or carried atop icebergs during the massive Missoula Ice Age floods that occurred around 15,000 years ago. When the flood waters reached the Portland Basin some of the flood waters made their way up the Willamette and Tualatin valleys with the icebergs floating on top. As the waters slowed and the icebergs melted the large rocks came to rest. These large rocks are granite from the Rockies and Canada rather than the basalt rocks of the surrounding area.
