The Seneca Creek Greenway Trail crosses Montgomery County, Maryland, from the Potomac River almost to Patuxent River State Park. This trailhead is located at Riley's Lock on the C&O canal and is the start of the trail at the Potomac River.

Parking Note for this trailhead - The trail here follows Tschiffely Mill Road on one side of Seneca Creek, but parking can be found at the end of Riley's Lock Road on the other side of Seneca Creek. Hikers can cross the creek along the river edge at the start or end of a hike.
The Greenway Trail crosses Montgomery County meandering along with Seneca Creek. The Trail now reaches from the Potomac River to eastern Montgomery County with plans to complete it all the way to Patuxent River State Park.
There are many trailheads along the route with about 1-2 trail miles between them. Parking is available at most trail entryways.
The Greenway Trail is marked with blazes and signs and well maintained by a coalition of volunteers. It is a popular and well traveled trail that passes near many points of Montgomery County history.
