In Boston, in the Back Bay section, is a survey disk mounted on a granite step of the entrance to the old Massachusetts Horticultural Hall. This building was once the headquarters to the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, but now is used for offices and is the headquarters for Boston Magazine (entrance is toward the Christian Science Plaza). The disk is about two feet from a glass door, on the right side, and is about four feet from two U.S. Post Office mailboxes. It is about 20 feet northwest of an entrance to the Symphony Station for the "E" Branch of the MBTA Green Line transit.
the disk has the text, "U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey - Benchmark" along the inside edge of the mark. Under that is "Elev. 13.195 Feet -Above Mean Sea Level -". Inside of that is the usual penalty statement. In the center of the disk are the following: "D12", "MASSG.S." [Massachusetts Geodetic Survey] and "1936."
The disk is in good condition, though it looks like the last digit in the elevation has been altered.
