Ablan Leon arrived in Canada as a penniless immigrant who worked as a door-to-door peddlar until he raised enough money to buy a small dry goods store in Welland, Ont. When one of his sons was getting married, Ablan bought the couple a wedding gift of a mattress, which was delivered to the store. The mattress was left leaning against the wall and a customer walked in and offered to buy it. Ablan did sell it at a profit and decided to get into the furniture business. This statue is an interactive tribute to Alban Leon so people can sit on a sofa and rub Ablan's shoulder for good luck.
