The House of Rohan is a family of viscounts, later dukes and princes, coming from the locality of Rohan in Brittany. Their line descends from the viscounts of Porhoët and said to trace back to the legendary Conan Meriadoc. Through the Porhoët, the Rohan are related to the Dukes of Brittany, with whom the family intermingled again in after its inception. They developed ties with the French and English royal houses as well, and played an important role in French and European history. The depicted CoA belongs to one of branches of House of Rohan, Rohan-Rochefort, which emigrated from France after Revolution to Bohemia and Austria.
The Rohan Palace (Rohanský palác) has long and complicated architectural history and also often changed owners. Palace was rebuilt several times in the 16-18th century. The last principal reconstruction is from 1838–1841, when the last owner, Duke Charles Alain Rohan of Bouillon and Montbazonunified gave to the palace the late classicist look.
