Moses Ashley Curtis (1808-1872) was a Scientist and Clergyman. He was Rector of St. Matthew's Church, 1841-1847, 1856-1872. Head of Episcopal School for Boys, Raleigh, 1837-1839.
He made scientific studies of fungi, shrubs, woody vines, and other plants. Curtis discovered and named number of new plants. He was the first to understand and describe the process by which the Venus Fly Trap "eats" insects.
