St Hilda's church at Danby is possibly the archetypal English parish church, that has evolved over the centuries,it has elements of Saxon Norman, early medieval and Georgian features.
There has been a church on this site since 1100AD the present church being built on a previous Christian burial ground.
There have been some restorations over the centuries one of the main ones being in 1777,also additions have been made.
St.Hilda to whom the church is dedicated to is depicted in one of several fine stained glass windows to be found in this church.
The latest addition to the church is the 15th. century tower.
The church has three bells in the belfry,2 of which are dated 1689
By the church main entrance is a Norman cross of the 14th.century.
Outside the church in the church grounds are some very early headstones some of which are grade II listed (which means historically protected)
also in the churchyard are some magnificent yews which are of a great age.
