The Grace Episcopal Church was founded in 1874 as a mission church of Trinity Church. The church became an independent parish in 1876. The current Gothic Revival style church was built beginning in 1894 and dedicated in 1895 and was designed by architect Nicholas Clayton. The Leon limestone building was built using mostly a bequest from Henry Rosenberg, a wealthy Galveston entrepreneur. The building survived the 1900 hurricane however for many years following the hurricane the size of the congregation declined and the church returned to a mission status in 1923 and closed shortly after. In the 1927 the parish was again a separate parish and the church again began to thrive.
