The Denver Municipal Auditorium was started in 1907 (finished in 1908) in time to host the 1908 National Democratic Convention (visit link) . At the time, the only larger auditorium was Madison Square Garden in New York City. The building had been refurbished many times and is now the Ellie Caulkins Opera House (visit link) . The building is part of the Denver Performing Arts Center. It is also on the National Register of Historic Places.
