Chulalongkorn the Great or King number 5 (the fifth king of the Chakri dynasty, as he is known in Thailand, at least in English), was one of the great kings of Thailand. He modernised the country, reigned for 42 years, and had 77 children. A busy life. He is the first known Thai King to visit another country, that of Singapore. This is commemorated by a statue in Singapore city.
The statue consists of a memorial plaque and a statue of an elephant (a well known symbol of Thailand). It is situated in the cultural precinct of Singapore city.
