Memory Markers — Perth, Australia - Abstract Public Sculptures on Waymarking.com

This sculpture consists of five, 3.5m high, cast aluminium, abstract, pen nibs. They were created to honour the memory of the original planners of the Stirling Garden. The nibs symbolise the importance of pen and ink to record keeping in the Victorian era.

The nibs are located at an entrance to the Supreme Court Gardens, near the intersection of Barrack St and The Esplanade road, in central Perth. Each nib is covered with abstract patterns and illuminated at night with lavender coloured lights. At night, an attractive sight.

A little to the north of the nibs is an information plaque (in gallery). This plaque contains part of an encomium of the of the Gardens, first published in the local newspaper "The West Australian" in 1898. Also a description of the sculpture. The nibs were sponsored by The City of Perth Art Foundation.
