St Etienne de Tinée is an isolated mountain town, at the base of the Col de la Bonnette and the headwaters of the Tinée. The Col de la Bonnette is the highest road in Europe, a remarkable drive in the right weather. St Etienne is an important tourist destination in the summer for hiking in the Alpes, and in the winter as a ski destination. On a side street just to the left of the town square and cathedral is the Penitent's chapel with a beautiful sundial. This sundial is featured on the back cover of Pierre Putelat's book "Cadrans Solaires des Alpes" printed in 1993.

The motto is Italian, "Io vado e vengo ogni giorno. E tu te vai senza ritorno" I come and go every day. And you go without returning.

The gnomon is missing but the remaining support post can act as a point gnomom.
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
