Carmo Street is located in Lisbon's downtown, Portugal. It's a relatively small street but, due to its central location, is an important commercial area. After the 1988 fire that devastated many of its buildings, it entered a dark period when many of the remaining stores closed. However, the opening of the "Armazéns do Chiado", a modern shopping-center, gave it a whole new life.
At the beggining of the eighties, portuguese rock group UHF wrote a song called "Rua do Carmo", describing the street as it was before the 1988 fire that destroyed most of it. It was a huge success and Portugal and it became a portuguese rock n roll classic.
