King William County Courthouse is the oldest courthouse in continuous use in the United States. The first structure located here was built on 1702 with Henry Fox as the first Justice. The current courthouse was built around 1725. This plaque in honor of Henry Fox is located near the entrance to the courthouse and reads as follows:
Dedicated to the memory of
Henry Fox
First Presiding Justice of this Court
April 20, 1702
and also a Burgess and Sheriff
of King William County who with
Captain Richard Littlepage
jointly deeded on January 20, 1702
to the newly formed County of
King William the land on which
the first courthouse stood and
on which the present courthouse
was built about the year 1725
