The font was given to the church by Harriet Whitbread in 1783. She also gave the same font design to Essendon in Hertfordshire. These two fonts are the only ones like this in England and are a Wedgwood black basalt design. Both fonts stand on a tapering, square, fluted pillar.

This information is available thanks to Pevsner. He adds that a third font was made for Melchbourne as Mr Humphrey Whitbread tells.

The actual church is mostly from 1900 and is by George Highton, earlier work is also present.
