The Beacon Theatre is one of Hopewell's most recognizable landmarks. It opened in 1928 showing silent movies and thrived during the golden age of motion pictures, but ultimately closed in 1981. In 1987 Hopewell Preservation, Inc. was founded to preserve and restore the historic theater. After a grand re-opening ceremony in 2005, the theater now operates as a meeting facility. In addition to two levels of meeting space featuring a conference center and reception area, the renovated Grand Ballroom has 14' tall ceilings, Brazilian cherry hardwood floors and a built-in bar. The renovation is still ongoing, however. Once the funds are in place, the third and final phase will focus on the original theater itself.
