Lakeside is named for its location near the shores of Tenmile and North Tenmile Lakes. Wagon roads provided the first link to the Lakeside area in the 1880s. The Lakeside Post Office was established on April 18, 1908. Rail service was established to Lakeside in 1916 and provided a boost to the community. The Oregon Coast Highway (101) opened in the thirties but bypassed Lakeside. By 1942 the community had dwindled to the point that the remaining residents voted to disincorporate. Following World War II the community slowly began to grow again and the need for sewers resulted in the incorporation a new Lakeside in 1973. The City Hall and the Library occupy the old Lakeside school which closed in the 40’s.
