Lake Hefner and the surrounding park area is approximately 2,500 acres and was built in 1947. There are 9 miles of trails, and some on the southeast side are for pedestrians only. The average depth of the lake is 29 feet, but the deepest part is 94 feet. This is wonderful area for many recreational activities: sailing races, sailing lessons, recreational boating, kayaking, fishing, bicycling, walking, golfing.
Stars and Stripes Park is located at the SE corner of Lake Hefner, and is next to the shore. There is a large playground and numerous benches/picnic tables for use. Fishing is allowed but a permit is required. There are hundreds of ducks that hang out in this park since they know it's a popular area and they will be fed.
