Few sports have slang more numerous or colorful than curling; a quick look at a curling rules book reveals terms for nearly every type of shot, equipment and personnel involved in the game.
Here are a few of the sport's more interesting terms:
• breaking an egg: touching a stone lightly (Scottish term);
• corner freeze: a rock that comes to rest touching another rock on an angle to the center line;
• hammer: the last rock in an end;
• hog: a stone that stops short of the hog line;
• junk: when there are many stones in play (particularly in front of the house);
• quacking: causing a stone to rock from side-to-side on its run up the rink

The club, located just off of I-287 (exit 4) in sunny South Plainfield offers a variety of curling opportunities, from participation in leagues, to 1 day friendly curling competitions, to complete weekend bonspiels. New/curious curlers are welcome to attend our learn-to-curl instructional classes (held mostly on weekends), and to join leagues/become members of our wonderful facility.

If you are interested/curious about curling, stop in! They have leagues Monday-Thursday evenings, as well as Saturday nights. In-house they offer Satellite TV broadcasts of not just the Olympics Curling Championships from Torino, but the Canadian Men’s and Women’s National Curling Championships and the Men’s and Women’s World Curling Championships.
