This beautiful statue features Sam on a bench, next to some kids, ready for baseball. The statue is located in front of the entrance to Mercer County Waterfront Park. There is none more famous in Trenton baseball history than Sam Plumeri.

The statue is just in front of the red brick entrance with its curved entrance. The entire scene is stunning as you purchase your ticket and walk up to the concourse. The statue of Samuel J. Plumeri, Sr. was placed here because he played an important role in bringing baseball back to Trenton. In front of the statue is a donor list on a small monument. The list is o a plaque which is secured to the stone monument.

There is a plaque at the right hand foot of the statue which reads:

SAMUEL J. PLUMERI, SR.
Mr. Trenton
This statue, given in loving tribute by family and
friends, is dedicated to the memory of
SAMUEL J. (SAM) PLUMERI SR.
A gentleman and a sportsman
His passion for life, for the love of his family
for his community and for his tireless efforts to bring
minor league baseball to Trenton, New Jersey
As a driving founder of the Trenton Thunder
was the basis of his personal credo and distinguished
him throughout his career.

"I think we are going to have a good ball club this year"

Sam Plumeri, Sr.

Dedicated April 1999

By sheer determination, and exhaustive and creative searches, I found a reference to the statue on an odd place, a financial website. It seems his son, Joe Plumeri is responsible for this statue. "Plumeri, who calls himself "nobody's idea of a typical CEO," says his peers often regret not having enough fun or taking risks. His own lament is not "building monuments to the things I believe in." So he commissioned a statue of his father, a businessman who in 1994 returned minor-league baseball to New Jersey's capital after 44 years. It sits in front of the 6,400-seat Samuel J. Plumeri Sr. Field. Plumeri's Jr.'s regrets, it seems, are too few to mention." SOURCE

The statue seems to be made of bronze and has some wonderful detail to it. Each time I visit this park, there are always crowds of people waiting a turn to take a picture or two with Sam; we were no different. There is also a virtual cache for this statue which can be found HERE
