Middle plaque reads:
The Spirit of ’76 is one of America’s best-known paintings and is famous for its iconic image of well-earned American pride and confidence. These characteristics embodied all Americans after the tragic events of September 11th, 2001.
Archibold M. Willard’s Painting (Circa 1876) has particular importance to the city of Wickliffe. Two of the models that posed for the painting lived in Wickliffe and became famous Ohioans in their own right. These models were Henry R. Devereux (The Boy Drummer) and Hugh Moser (the Fifer).
It is in the spirit of heroism that we honor all those who serve this country with bravery, pride, and confidence.
