Songkhla is one of the far southern provinces of Thailand. Its major city, though not the provincial capital, is Hat Yai. The city bus station is located to the east of the city centre. This station links the city to the neighbouring provinces and to Bangkok. Local routes to the towns and villages in the province usually originate from various points inside the city. This bus station, as with all Thai bus stations, is busy most of the day.

The station is large. In design it is a long rectangular building, one side of which fronts a street, the other has bus parking bays. Inside the building are many shops, ticket counters, and waiting areas. Across the road are a line of commercial bus services, both for transportation and tourism.
