The dragonfly sculpture by Cheshire based artists Joanne Risley and Barry Callaghan is located in the centre of a pound close to the Fourteen Locks Canal Centre on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal north of Newport in south east Wales.
Unveiled in June 2001 the sculpture is cast in bronze, with the insect's body formed out of a collage of canal boat and other waterway features which evoke the canal's industrial and transport heritage.
Fourteen Locks is a series of locks on the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal and is one on the steepest rises on the UK's canal system. It is in the process of being restored to it's former glory when completed in 1799.
The Canal Centre is a visitor centre, shop and cafe.
Ps Look under the sculpture and you can see a moorhen nest & and dragonflies are often seen along the waters' edge.
