"Extreme Networks NASDAQ: EXTR founded in 1996, is a publicly listed company that designs, builds, and installs Ethernet network solutions for enterprise and Carrier Class (metro) networks.
Extreme Networks was established by co-founders Gordon Stitt, Herb Schneider and Stephen Haddock in 1996 in California, USA, with its first offices located in Cupertino, which later moved to Santa Clara.
Extreme Networks mission was to deliver high performance, Layer 3 IP/Ethernet networking technology, including Quality of Service and resiliency, with the scale and speed of emerging Gigabit Ethernet switching. Its products were targeted at corporate enterprises and companies building and hosting the emerging broadband Internet.
Gordon Stitt served as Chief Executive Officer until August 2006, when he retired and transitioned to a role serving as the company's Chairman of the Board of Directors. Mark Canepa, a former general manager with Sun Microsystems storage division, became Extreme Networks president and Chief Executive Officer in September 2006. Stephen Haddock served as Chief Technology Officer until 2007 and Herb Schneider led engineering and was Chief of R&D until 2007.
Extreme Networks launched its Initial Public Offering in April 1999, listed on the Nasdaq, as ticker "EXTR."" (
