Marker Text:
Re-named Bally for Father Augustin Bally. The third Roman Catholic mission and first Catholic school in the State were established here in 1743 by Father Theodore Schneider.
Goshenhoppen (Indian term meaning woderful tubars) is a section of land in the Perkimen Valley. Father Schneider lived with John Kuhn and his wife Anna Barbara until he could build his own home. I did find that Father Sceider traveled to the iron furnances in the southern part of the state. He traveled on horseback, stage, and riverboadt. He was even know to travel to New Jersey (south and central) and parts of Delaware.
So take a pic of you and the sign, or you and the bear!
