The Haines Apple Tree marks the site of the Haines Homestead and was planted by the family in 1852 or 1854. On October 9, 1855, the family were massacred by Indians who were raiding along the Rogue River Valley in retaliation for vigilantes attacking peaceful Indians near Eagle Point.
