Marker Text:
Built in 1767 by John de Turk, son of Isaac de Turk, a Huguenot who settled here in 1712 and was one of a number of French Protestants who were pioneers in this part of Berks County.
I could find little info on the DeTurk House and it's family. I know they and the Boone's (Daniel's family), Lincoln (yes, Abe Lincoln's family) Douglass's, Bertolet and Jones families who settled the Oley Valley.
Huguenots whee French Protestants who usually followed the teaching of John Calvin.
So take a pic of you and the sign, or you and the house, but from a safe distance. Don't want to scare the folks inside!
